Online Piano FAQ

How do I play this piano with my computer keyboard?

The middle row of letters maps to white keys and the row above to black keys: A-S-D-F-G-H-J-K play C through the next C, with W-E-T-Y-U-O-P as the sharps between them. Press Z and X to shift the keyboard an octave down or up. Click the piano once first so it has keyboard focus.

Can I play chords on this online piano?

Yes - the piano is fully polyphonic. Hold several computer keys at once, or on a touchscreen use multiple fingers. For hearing pre-built chord qualities in every key, our chord player is purpose-built for that.

What octaves does this piano cover?

Three octaves are shown at a time, starting at C3-C6 by default, and the octave shift buttons (or Z/X keys) move the whole range from C1 up to C8 - covering effectively the full range of a real piano, three octaves per view.

Why does it sound different from a real piano?

A real piano note is an extremely complex sound - hammers, strings, resonating soundboard. This piano synthesizes notes with layered oscillators and a shaped envelope, which keeps it instant-loading and dependency-free. It is designed for pitch reference, melody picking, and casual playing rather than performance realism.

Is this piano suitable for learning?

For learning note positions, intervals, simple melodies, and chord shapes - absolutely, and the note names on every key help. For developing real technique you will eventually want a physical keyboard with weighted keys, but plenty of ear training and theory practice works fine right here.
