モスキート音とは?
「モスキート音」は高周波の音(通常17kHz)で、加齢性難聴(老人性難聴)のため、ほとんどの大人には聞こえません。
年齢とともに高い周波数を聞く力は徐々に失われます。この現象は「若者よけ」装置に使われたり、大人に聞こえないように若者同士が連絡を取る手段として使われたりしてきました。
年齢別の聴力
- • 20歳未満: 通常20kHzまで聞こえる
- • 20〜30歳: だいたい17〜18kHzまで
- • 30〜40歳: 通常16kHzまで
- • 40〜50歳: だいたい14〜15kHzまで
- • 50歳以上: 12〜14kHzが上限のことが多い
なぜ大人には聞こえない?
老人性難聴は加齢に伴う緩やかな聴力低下です。高周波を感知する内耳の有毛細胞は、次の要因で時間とともに損傷します:
