Volume Booster

Quiet voice memo, lecture recording, or ringtone that gets lost in your pocket? Boost it up to +18 dB - a built-in limiter stops the peaks from clipping, so louder never means distorted. Preview live, download MP3 or WAV.

Louder, not worse

Loudness has two enemies: clipping (boosting past digital full scale, which sounds like crackling) and over-limiting (squashing every peak flat, which sounds lifeless). The chain here boosts cleanly and limits only what would clip - the honest middle. If the goal is matching a broadcast or streaming loudness target rather than raw volume, use the volume normalizer, which works in LUFS; measure what you actually have first with the audio analyzer.

Volume Booster FAQ

How do I make an audio file louder?

Load the file, raise the boost slider until the preview sounds right, and download. The gain raises everything uniformly, and the built-in limiter catches only the peaks that would otherwise clip - so a +10 dB boost on a quiet voice memo comes out clean instead of crackly.

Why not just boost without a limiter?

Digital audio has a hard ceiling at 0 dBFS. Boost past it and the waveform peaks get sliced flat - audible as harsh crackling distortion. The limiter here squeezes the loudest peaks down just below the ceiling while leaving everything else untouched, which is how you get "louder without distortion".

How much boost is safe?

Depends entirely on the file's headroom. A quiet recording peaking at -20 dB takes +15 dB cleanly; an already-loud master peaking near 0 dB has nothing left to give, and boosting it just drives the limiter harder, which eventually sounds squashed. Check the source's true peak and loudness with the audio analyzer if you want numbers before you push.

Will this make my music louder than streaming services?

For files on your own device, yes - you control the level. Note that streaming platforms normalize loudness on their end (typically to -14 LUFS), so a boosted file uploaded to them gets turned right back down. Boosting is for local playback: voice memos, lecture recordings, quiet ringtones, video project stems.

Is my file uploaded?

No - decoding, boosting, limiting, preview, and export all run locally in your browser with the Web Audio API. The page works offline once loaded.
