Como ler seus resultados

O tom fica mudo: abaixo da faixa do seu equipamento — normal em 20–40 Hz sem subwoofer. O tom soa mais agudo que o seguinte: você está ouvindo distorção harmônica, não a fundamental. Chiado ou chocalho: algo está solto — o alto-falante, a grade ou os móveis. Alto num ponto da varredura, morto em outro: modos de sala — propriedade do ambiente, não da caixa.

Que grave meu equipamento deveria reproduzir?

Expectativas aproximadas: alto-falantes de notebook desistem por volta de 150–200 Hz; caixas Bluetooth pequenas por volta de 80–100 Hz; caixas de estante decentes chegam a 50–60 Hz; bons fones over-ear reproduzem 20–30 Hz (baixinho, mas audível); um subwoofer de verdade deve entregar saída limpa em 25–30 Hz, e muitos chegam a 20. Se um tom dois degraus acima da faixa declarada ficar mudo, confira volume e posicionamento antes de culpar o hardware.

Ouço algo no tom de 20 Hz em caixas pequenas — como?

O que você ouve é quase certamente distorção harmônica, não 20 Hz. Quando um alto-falante pequeno é forçado abaixo da sua faixa, ele produz harmônicos em 40, 60 e 80 Hz que o cérebro aceita como "uma nota grave". Checagem rápida: se o "tom" de 20 Hz soa parecido em altura com o de 40 Hz, você está ouvindo a distorção, não a fundamental.

Por que o grave fica mais alto e mais baixo conforme ando pela sala?

Modos de sala: ondas de baixa frequência têm metros de comprimento e refletem entre paredes paralelas, criando pontos onde a onda se acumula (retumba) e pontos onde ela se cancela (mortos). Comece em torno de um quarto do volume e suba aos poucos. Frequências graves parecem mais baixas do que medem — pelas curvas de igual sonoridade, 40 Hz precisa de muito mais energia que 1 kHz para soar igualmente alto — então é fácil levar uma caixa pequena à distorção ou estourar o curso do subwoofer sem perceber. Grades chacoalhando e painéis zumbindo significam: reduza.
