FAQ

Is the conversion really done in my browser?

Yes - the file is decoded with the Web Audio API and re-encoded to MP3 by a JavaScript port of the LAME encoder, all on your device. Nothing uploads, which is why there is no queue, no file-size cap, and no privacy question.

What MP3 quality should I choose?

192 kbps is the sweet spot for most uses - transparent to most listeners at half the size of 320. Choose 320 kbps for archiving or critical listening, 128 kbps for voice recordings and minimum size.

Does converting reduce audio quality?

Converting to MP3 is lossy: it discards data the encoder judges inaudible. At 192-320 kbps the difference from the source is inaudible to most people on most material. Converting lossy-to-lossy (e.g. OGG to MP3) stacks two generations of loss - fine for convenience, avoid for masters.
