¿Qué es el tono mosquito?
El «tono mosquito» es un sonido de alta frecuencia (normalmente 17 kHz) que la mayoría de los adultos no puede oír por la pérdida auditiva asociada a la edad, llamada presbiacusia.
Al envejecer perdemos gradualmente la capacidad de oír frecuencias altas. El fenómeno se ha usado en dispositivos «antiadolescentes» y como forma de que los jóvenes se comuniquen sin que los adultos los oigan.
Audición por edades
- • Menos de 20: normalmente oyen hasta 20 kHz
- • 20-30: suelen oír hasta 17-18 kHz
- • 30-40: normalmente hasta 16 kHz
- • 40-50: suelen llegar a 14-15 kHz
- • 50+: a menudo limitados a 12-14 kHz
¿Por qué los adultos no lo oyen?
La presbiacusia es la pérdida gradual de audición con la edad. Las células ciliadas del oído interno que detectan frecuencias altas se dañan con el tiempo por:
