Voicemeeter for Mac: what to use instead

Voicemeeter doesn’t run on a Mac: VB-Audio makes it for Windows only. VB-CABLE has a Mac version, but it’s a cable with no mixer. To mix your mic and music into one virtual mic on a Mac, use a router with a mixer, such as Patch or Loopback. BlackHole is the free option, but it doesn’t mix either.

A note before you read: we make Patch, one of the tools on this page. We don’t make Voicemeeter, VB-CABLE, BlackHole or Loopback, and we’ve tried to be fair to all of them.

The short version

  • Voicemeeter, Banana and Potato are Windows only. VB-Audio’s system requirements list no macOS version.
  • VB-CABLE does have a Mac version. It’s a virtual cable: it carries sound, but doesn’t mix your mic with anything.
  • For the usual Voicemeeter job, your mic and music in one virtual mic, a Mac needs a router with a mixer.

Is there a Voicemeeter for Mac?

No. Voicemeeter, with its bigger versions Banana and Potato, is VB-Audio’s virtual audio mixer. It blends several audio sources, such as your mic and your apps, and sends them to several outputs, with virtual inputs and outputs of its own. VB-Audio’s system requirements list Windows only, from Windows XP to Windows 10 and 11, in 32-bit, 64-bit and ARM64 versions. There is no macOS version.

VB-Audio’s forum has said for years that a Mac version is being worked on, and none has shipped. So the useful question on a Mac isn’t where to download Voicemeeter, but which tool does the job you used it for.

VB-CABLE on a Mac: a cable, not a mixer

VB-CABLE, VB-Audio’s virtual cable, does have a Mac version: driver pack 108, from May 2021, for Intel and Apple silicon Macs on macOS 10.10 or later. As on Windows, it’s donationware.

In VB-Audio’s words, “all audio coming in the CABLE input is simply forwarded to the CABLE output”. That’s the whole job. On a Mac there’s no Voicemeeter to do the mixing, so VB-CABLE on its own carries sound from one app to another without mixing your voice in. In that it’s like BlackHole, the free cable most Mac guides use.

VB-Audio’s Mac downloads also include VBAN Receptor, which receives VBAN audio streams over a network. It isn’t a mixer either.

What you used Voicemeeter for, on a Mac

Most people who move from Windows used Voicemeeter for the same few jobs. Here’s how each Mac tool handles them.

VB-Audio’s details are from its Voicemeeter and VB-CABLE pages, checked on 13 October 2026. BlackHole and Loopback details are from their makers’ sites, checked in September 2026.

For OBS alone you may need none of these: OBS 30 and later can capture one app, or the whole Mac, with its macOS Audio Capture source on macOS 13 or later. A router helps when the same mix also has to reach a call.

The Mac tools, one by one

Your call app’s share sound

For a clip in one meeting, you may not need anything. Zoom’s Share Sound and Computer Audio, Google Meet’s tab audio and Discord’s stream audio send your Mac’s sound with a share. It travels only with the share and only in that app, and it isn’t part of your mic. What each app allows without a screen share.

BlackHole and Audio MIDI Setup

BlackHole, from Existential Audio, is a free, open-source virtual audio driver in 2, 16 and 64-channel versions, for Intel and Apple silicon Macs. Whatever plays into it comes out as an input another app can choose. It has no window and no mixer: to hear what you send, you build a Multi-Output Device in Audio MIDI Setup, and macOS can’t change that device’s volume. To add your mic, you build an Aggregate Device, which puts the two side by side as channels rather than mixing them. What the BlackHole setup takes.

Loopback

Rogue Amoeba’s Loopback is the closest thing to Voicemeeter’s full routing: virtual devices built from any apps and hardware, a level for each, channel mapping and monitors. It captures a single app’s sound even when the app has no output picker. It costs $99, needs macOS 14.5 or later, and the free trial adds noise after 20 minutes. Loopback and its alternatives.

Patch

Patch, which we make, does the job most people used Voicemeeter for in calls and streams. It mixes your mic and the apps you choose, with a fader for each and a limiter, into one virtual microphone called Patch Mix. Preview lets you hear the mix before anyone else does, and Hear locally plays any source in your headphones.

It needs a Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 26 or later, makes one mix rather than any number of devices, and has no channel mapping. If you used Voicemeeter to send different mixes to several places at once, Loopback is the closer fit.

Set up Patch for Discord, Zoom or OBS

  1. Install Patch. Download Patch and follow its setup. It installs a small audio component that adds Patch Mix, a virtual microphone. Your Mac’s sound pauses for about a second while it installs.
  2. Add your microphone and your apps. Add your microphone as a source, then the apps you want heard: Music, Spotify, a browser, a game or any other Mac app. Patch asks for permission to capture app audio the first time.
  3. Send them and set the levels. Turn on Send for your microphone and each app. Set each app well under your voice with its fader, and watch the meters.
  4. Choose Patch Mix where you used Voicemeeter’s virtual input. In Discord, choose Patch Mix as the Input Device under Voice & Video. In Zoom, choose it under Microphone in Audio settings. In OBS, set Mic/Auxiliary Audio to Patch Mix. Patch shows when the app starts listening.
  5. Preview, then go live. Preview lets you hear the whole mix in your headphones while the app hears silence. When it sounds right, click Go live.

In the call app, choose your headphones as the speaker, never Patch Pass-Thru, or the call hears itself. To send one browser tab rather than the whole browser, use Patch for Chrome; see share tab audio in any call. For each app’s settings, and games, see play music through your mic.

Questions

Is there a Voicemeeter for Mac?

No. VB-Audio’s system requirements for Voicemeeter, Voicemeeter Banana and Voicemeeter Potato list Windows only, from Windows XP to Windows 10 and 11, in 32-bit, 64-bit and ARM64 versions. There is no macOS version.

Will Voicemeeter come to the Mac?

VB-Audio’s forum has said for years that a Mac version is being worked on, but none has shipped. Until one does, use a Mac tool for each job you used Voicemeeter for.

Does VB-CABLE work on a Mac?

Yes. VB-Audio makes a Mac version of VB-CABLE for Intel and Apple silicon Macs on macOS 10.10 or later, and it’s donationware. It’s a cable, not a mixer: sound sent into it comes out the other end, so on its own it won’t mix your mic with music.

What’s the closest thing to Voicemeeter on a Mac?

Loopback, from Rogue Amoeba, is the closest full router: virtual devices from any apps and hardware, a level for each, channel mapping and monitors, for $99 with a free trial. If you used Voicemeeter to get your mic and music into Discord, Zoom or OBS, Patch does that one job. BlackHole is the free option, without a mixer.

Is Voicemeeter free?

Voicemeeter is donationware on Windows: free to use, and after 30 days it asks you to buy a licence, though you can keep evaluating it. There is nothing to install on a Mac.
